New map of Antarctica reveals hidden world of lakes, valleys and mountains buried beneath miles of ice


Scientists have mapped the bedrock beneath Antarctica‘s huge ice sheet in unprecedented element, revealing hidden constructions that type the glacier.

The ice sheet, which spans greater than 5.4 million sq. miles (14 million sq. kilometers), shrouds underlying mountains, valleys, lakes and basins, in accordance with a brand new research revealed within the journal Science on Thursday (Jan. 15).
